Secondary anxiety syndrome
A syndrome with features of an anxiety disorder (panic attacks, generalized anxiety, phobia) that is caused by an underlying medical condition such as hyperthyroidism, cardiac disease, or pheochromocytoma.
Symptoms
- Anxiety caused by underlying medical condition (also: secondary anxiety, organic anxiety, anxiety from hyperthyroidism, pheochromocytoma-induced anxiety, anxiety from cardiac arrhythmia)
- Panic attacks with somatic basis (also: panic from cardiac disease, panic from hypoglycaemia, physically caused panic attacks, organic panic disorder)
- Temporal link between anxiety and medical condition (also: anxiety onset linked to medical diagnosis, anxiety fluctuating with disease activity, physical cause of anxiety confirmed)
