Schizophrenia or other primary psychotic disorders
Psychotic disorders are characterized by profound disruption of contact with reality: they may involve false beliefs (delusions), voices or images not perceived by others (hallucinations), and disorganized thinking. These symptoms significantly impair daily functioning at work, school, and in social relationships. The course varies: some individuals experience a single episode, others recurrent or chronic difficulties. This group includes schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, schizotypal disorder, acute and transient psychotic disorder, and delusional disorder.
